Poem: Zoom Prompt – Things I Need, No. 4: Music So Loud It Rattles and Knocks the Stereo to the Floor

Things I Need, No. 4: Music So Loud It Rattles and Knocks the Stereo to the Floor

I need the rough woodwind of my larynx splintered

the obnoxious, monotonous cadence of my heart stuttered

the taut, stretched lambskin of my eardrums punctured

my toenails curled sensuously, and shattered

the groove of my spine by a needle traced

and stopped short in a peculiar place

I need a voice so sonorous and thick

it stills my rattling xylophone ribs
